Basic Tips for Securing Your WordPress Site

Published June 13th, 2012 in Articles, WordPress Tips

To make sure your WordPress website stays secure, I always recommend the basics first:

Change your passwords regularly

Set a date every month and change your WordPress admin password, your hosting control panel password, and your hosting FTP password. Never use any words or terms from the dictionary, always use a string of letters and numbers, uppercase and lowercase. A good place to start is http://strongpasswordgenerator.com if you need help choosing a password.

Be Careful When Installing Plugins

It’s always a good rule of thumb to check the ‘Details’ link when you are interested in a plugin. Even better, click on the WordPress Plugin Page to find out if the plugin has been updated regularly, if it Works, and what people are saying.

There is a lot more to look into when you’re running a WordPress website, so check out the following post to see if you’re keeping your site up to par and safe from hackers.
